I want to elaborate further on the topic of personal health and how I’ve been following my own advice. Aside from my recent neck and back issues, which I ignored for too long before seeing a doctor, I’ve also been dealing with symptoms of adrenal fatigue. This is a condition which has only recently been getting more public exposure, but it’s something many people deal with, especially athletes.
Adrenal fatigue is an important issue to understand, as it affects many people who may not even be aware of it. In short, adrenal fatigue occurs when the adrenal glands aren’t able to keep up with adequate hormone production because of chronic stress. Physical, mental, and emotional stress—or a combination of each form—can eventually overwhelm your body’s ability to handle the stress loads.
Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue
- Inability to cope with stress
- More energy at night than in the morning
- Mood swings
- Muscle weakness
- Difficulty staying asleep at night
- Weight gain
- Muscle loss
In the sports of fitness and bodybuilding, the amount of stress individuals experience is often a combination of multiple factors. Left unchecked, that stress will ultimately have a negative impact on your physique, let alone your overall health. This is why it’s extremely important to listen to your body, so you can minimize and control the effects of your stress loads.
Your body can normally handle situations of acute stress quite well, but when the stress remains constant and/or becomes chronic, the adrenal glands become fatigued and ineffective. That results in negative effects on your body and mind.
In order to fight the effects of my own stress, I’ve been using SAN supplements that help reduce its negative effects, including potential adrenal fatigue. My favorite product is CortStat, which utilizes phosphatidylserine and alanyl-L-glutamine dipeptide to reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels and inhibit muscle catabolism. I’ve also been making sure to get enough greens and superfoods by taking Green Supreme Fusion every morning, and I take Cultivate (SAN’s prebiotic and probiotic digestive enzymes) before eating any food to ensure that I’m getting the most from the foods I eat.
To further control my stress levels, I’ve also cut back on any HIIT (high-intensity interval training) cardio workouts. As effective as HIIT is for burning fat, it can also raise cortisol levels. And because overuse of caffeine can eventually contribute to adrenal fatigue, I’ve also stopped using any fat burners that have caffeine for now.
It’s vital that you listen to your body and act when necessary—before you get injured or sick. Thankfully, I have SAN nutritional products to utilize when I’m lacking in certain areas of my nutrition and overall health.
